A handmade Japanese incense container that has been finely crafted with sharpened gold. Fuki-urushi is applied to the black persimmon. BIWA is Japanese musical insturument.
A BIWA is a musical instrument, a type of lute, that is widely played in China and Japan. It consists of a long neck and a flat resonating body, with four strings stretched across it. Playing techniques involve plucking or strumming the strings with the fingers or with a pick. The biwa has been used in traditional genres such as court music and folk music, as well as in modern contexts such as theater and kabuki performances.
